dabibere

One of the earliest evidences of wine consumption at Lake Balaton is the scyphus at the exhibition that was – along with several other objects – placed into an early Roman cremation rite urn in today's Cserszegtomaj area some 2000 years ago. In its shape and performance the finding reflects the pottery traditions of the Celtic ethnical group that settled down also in Transdanubia still before the Roman conquest. On its neck, however, the following text can be read already in Latin, the language of the conquerors: DA BIBERE or "GIVE ME SOMETHING TO DRINK". The finding of outstanding significance became the emblem of the winemakers in the Balaton area, while the text on it became their motto.
